Rastafarian use of Cannabis: "Members of the Rastafari movement use cannabis as a part of their worshiping of God, Bible study and Meditation. The movement was founded in Jamaica in the 1930s and while it is not known when Rastafarians first made cannabis into something sacred it is clear that by the late 1940s Rastafari was associated with cannabis smoking at the Pinnacle community of Leonard Howell. Rastafari see cannabis as a sacramental and deeply beneficial plant that is the Tree of Life mentioned in the Bible. Bob Marley, amongst many others, said, "the herb ganja is the healing of the nations." The use of cannabis, and particularly of large pipes called chalices, is an integral part of what Rastafari call "reasoning sessions" where members join together to discuss life according to the Rasta perspective. They see cannabis as having the capacity to allow the user to penetrate the truth of how things are much more clearly, as if the wool had been pulled from one’s eyes. Thus the Rastafari come together to smoke …
Start Meditation, Stop Smoking.

my self atman would appreciate it.
Buddhists most likely would say anatman, or ‘no-self.’ Meaning, there is no intrinsically existent self that exists beyond the collection of parts that is named “joe.” Well, what does that mean? It means that when “your parts” came together, smoking wasn’t part of you. Likewise, you can stop whenever you decide to. One thing you can do is stop buying cigarettes. Another is stop touching cigarettes. Another is not having cigarettes and lighters or matches together in your hands. Another is not putting dry cigarettes in your mouth. Another is doing something else when you feel you “have” to smoke a cigarette. If any of these aren’t cutting it for you, think about this. If you can not smoke for six to eight hours (say, while sleeping) then there is nothing preventing you from stopping anytime you decide to stop. Just don’t do it. Further, you can look at an image of the Conqueror Shakyamuni Buddha and try though you might, you will not see a cigarette anywhere near his hands or mouth. That you would call yourself a Buddhist means you seek refuge in not only the Teacher but what he taught and that true paths would lead to cessation; so, if you would want to stop hitting your thumb with a hammer, you would first have to move your thumb. Or, put down the hammer. Or, not have your finger near where the hammer strikes. Hitting your finger with a hammer is a result of these other conditions all being present – removing any one of them removes the result. Likewise, if you remove the cigarettes you can’t smoke them. In more subtle analysis, there are no cigarettes; there is just your craving. Let the last cigarette you smoked be your last cigarette. Just don’t do it. Sit down and meditate for five minutes instead. If you used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day – and instead now meditate for five minutes twenty times a day, you would be well on your way to developing a fairly strong mindfulness which could be directed at any virtuous object of observation at will and then, you would be well on your way – away from smoking and into something useful like Dharma practice. Best wishes to you! (By the way, I used to smoke like a fish, so it can be done!)
I seem to only be able to meditate when i smoke the herb… it will come to me naturally…
I can also easily focus on meditation when someone reads me a guided meditation, like my yoga teacher used to do.
But i can’t seem to just be completely sober & by myself & be able to really focus inwardly & meditate…i dunno if i’m making any sense but hopefully you guys will know what i’m talking about.
Also, I want to really focus on sending out positive vibes & bringing in positive energy & letting love free…etc
Thanks for any tips on how to guide myself through a meditation & really be able to get myself into that mind state…
Peace & much love to all

Woah i def put this in the psych section idk how it ended up in R&S… :p
Oh well, all perspectives are appreciated
<3
LOL @ Lloyd…i’m pretty sure i am not confusing the two…ahah
I discovered the art of meditation before the art of getting high
I had a yoga teacher sophomore yr of hs who would do guided meditation for us practically daily except for fridays & i didn’t used to get high back then…i remember how liberating those guided meditations were…with that nature music & shit…it was hella relaxing too
Lol Methooz, that’s what i’m trying to do yeah… just need to train my mind to focus w/o any aid… yup yupz
Sati- That’s really helpful! Lovely, thank you!
Okay…maybe i got mah shiit twisted :/
To those of you who say you cannot meditate while high you betta be trippin’. You can do anything while high. LOLOL.
Okay but for real though a lot of you are saying that your mind has to be completely blank for you to be meditatiing “correctly”. Or that you have to clear your mind of all thought before you can be at peace. I don’t necessarily believe this. I don’t think that there’s an absolute way everyone must mediate. We all have different ways of going about things & if you want to call it something other than mediation that’s fine…but i feel like you can still focus on something or envision something, or even think positive thoughts or go into a trance or be mind trippin & that could be your meditative state. If i am using the wrong word then mah bad..haha
haha
& to say that guided meditation is not mediatation at all then what is it? lol Whatever it is i like it…it’s nice
Set a timer for twenty minuets, sit down, bring awareness to the breath, and contemplate this statement:
I can’t seem to just be
a. completely sober
b. by myself
c. able to focus inwardly
d. all of the above
If you can sit down without added distractions and connect with the breath, bringing your awareness back to it each time the mind wanders, then you are training the mind. This is meditating. Let go of all the distractions, both inside and outside. Drop the attachment to both what you want and what you don’t want. Become an observer of what is going on with just this breath. Once the mind becomes still and clear, then you may gain some insights into the above statement. May you find success in all your meditation efforts.

I have some marijuana and non-enhanced salvia leaf, im 13 so i cant go out and buy K2 or anything like that, i need something to intensify the blend that you can buy at a regular store, like nutmeg or whatever, which i might sprinkle on the top of the blend to see what happens. Any suggestions??
Before I say this, it is not for everybody. Now, if you have codine at home, you can make a codine blunt. I wouldn’t use it for meditation, but it is definitely crazy.
What does connecting with God mean to you? How do you accomplish this?
For me, it simply means mentally blocking out all of the unimportant bullsh*t in my life, and focusing my mind on the things that really matter.
I accomplish this by a number of methods… including meditation, smoking weed, and hanging out with friends/loved ones.
What about you?
to ‘connect with god’…
one must first ‘know god’.
would there be no such thing as weed causing or bringing out mental disorders? because some ppl say that smoking weed can enhance and bring out pre-existing problems like anxiety and depression. If everyone did mindfullness meditation and got control over there inner self, then would smoking weed be ok for everyone? and also, for people with bi pol\ar and psychosis, could meditation at an early age stop these problems?
Marijuana is really tricky. It depends how much THC is inhaled when used. No meditation or control of your inner self at any age can affect the effects of marijuana.
In advanced Psychology we study the effects of drugs. The most controversial one is marijuana because it isn’t really that bad for you right? Actually it is pretty bad. It makes people who have control of their inner self lose that sense. In a recorded experiment we saw 3 rats, one was raised in a calm danger proof environment. The other had to be careful of being shocked whenever it walked. and the third had a bit of both (control).
When each rat inhaled the marijuana fumes, they all seemed to gain a sense of control and calmness. Then they showed the rats after a couple uses. The calm one acted very similar to the one in the dangerous environment.
The reason for this is hypothesized that the drug brings you to a level of calmness where once you leave this stage, you realize how vulnerable you have been, and panic for only a brief moment. This panic is a form of fear, and as long as fear exists, true calmness cannot be achieved.
So based on that, no. No form of meditation can prevent the deeper effects of marijuana.
I can’t lose weight plus I have recently quit smoking and started meditation. Also juice fasting today. If you have done it before,
What do you think , do you think it worked well on you ?
Is it a good method for a detox ?
Any disturbancies ?
If your planning on a juice detox as a way to cleanse your body to prepare it for more diet and exercise, then it is a good idea. If your doing a juice detox to lose weight, then it is not. You’ll only loose water weight and end up gaining it back imediatly.
If you plan to go forward with it, then do it for no more than 4 to 7 days. Buy some herbal detox teas, and get juice that is 100% and has added nutrients, such as protien and B vitamins. A good brand is callled Naked. Also Trader Joe’s market or any natural food store, will carry fruit smoothies and other nutrient rich juices.
As far as the smoking goes, it may complicate things somewhat, as your body and mind may be stressed from lack of food. But if you have the willpower to drink only juice for a week, than maybe you’ll be able to stop smoking as we’ll.
I’ve done juice fasting and other types of body cleansing methods on many different occasions, and it isn’t necessarily
easy! Good Luck!
I’ve started to meditate recently and I also use marijuana occasionally and don’t really want to give it up, but I’ve heard that it defeats the purpose of meditation. Is this true? I’ve heard of Ganja Yoga, but can a person meditate after smoking marijuana?
I could see it defeating the purpose while under the influence, because the point of meditation is to clear your mind of all thoughts, i.e. get rid of the surface thoughts that swirl around our mind on a day to day basis. I think marijuana actually stimulates thoughts, making these “surface thoughts” more profound insightful. Ever smoked when you’re really tired, then tried to go to sleep shortly after but realize you can’t because your mind is going crazy with all kinds of unique thoughts? I think that is the same reason meditation might not work well.
On the other hand, I do think introspective mental activity can be accomplished with marijuana, just in a different way. I write a lot, and so I always have a notebook and pen around. When I smoke, I sometimes like to think about possible ideas or enhancements to a story I’ll be working on, and I just let the thoughts flow and write down the ones I find significant (write it down in detail too, because chances are you will forget the intricate details later, you STONER
. Then I look back later and take what works.
I think this would work well for any subject you wanted to contemplate. So yeah, ultimately I think marijuana will not work well for mediation, but will work well for a more active practice like contemplation of any subject, especially in the realm of creativity.
I’ve also long ago come to the realization that it works best to smoke only occasionally, saving it as a treat, etc. If you want to get some creative contemplation on a subject, only smoke like once per week, but each time smoke a BUNCH and get very high. Then the experience will be profound and maybe even meaningful. When you start to smoke everyday, burnout happens and you fail to receive the true benefits and really just get the garbled mind state, a.k.a burnt out. So yah, its a treat, and a treat should be taken only occasionally, or its not a treat anymore.
The first time I did tummo meditation… I went 48 hours without any sleep….
Tonight I practiced it for 3:00 hours… and now it is 3:00 a.m. and I still can’t sleep…. usually I sleep around 10:00 or 11:00 o’clock…. right now I’m not even tired…
Isn’t this what happens to your body when you are smoking marijuana?
Your insomnia probably has nothing to do with tummo meditation.
yeah yeah I know smoking is bad for you / I don’t smoke often but If I did I wouldn’t want to do tobacco as its useless. I remember reading some text document about legal smoking variations which were cheaper and produced more psychoactive/meditative value then tobacco, but I can’t find the site. It had things like combining mugwort with scullcap and some other things, different herbal cigerette styles for different purposes (some for aphrodisia, meditation, dream-inducing) etc. Does anyone know of a site where I can find out herbal smoking recipes? I’m not expecting something the strength of marijuana just an enjoyable smoke with added bonuses. thanks
Salvia Divinorum and Spice are both very popular legal blends, as is Kratom. http://www.everyondoesit.co.uk is my first stop… I’ve actually just ordered £50 (about $100) worth of pre-rolled joints and various smoking mixes, if you drop me an e-mail i’ll be happy to tell you what effects I found each to have, in a week or so when I’ve sampled a little of each
I am very interested in how meditation works.
I smoke pot and I meditated sitting down on my couch.
I paid attention to different parts of my body; I started at the crouch, the feet, the hands, the crown of the head, and the top and front of my brain.
The weirdest thing happened to me! whichever part I paid attention to, all other parts of the body felt numb and the selective part would feel very warm and active.’
For instance, when I paid attention to my brain, my whole body felt like it didn’t exist, and I heard static electricity noises from inside my head. Like the noise when you hear when you get shocked by a doorknob!
I was so excited about that so I tried going to different parts of the frontal lobe but as the high wore down, so did my ability to focus on it.
If am doing meditation right, how can I refine what I am doing or change what I am doing?
